Alexis MacAllister was sent off in Liverpool’s first home match, but the Reds still defeated Bournemouth in a thrilling Premier League contest at Anfield.

The Cherries, who had previously had a goal disallowed for offside by Jaidon Anthony, struck inside three minutes when the Reds gave up possession and Antoine Semenyo blasted into the bottom corner.

In a hectic first half, Jurgen Klopp’s team ultimately settled down and scored twice in an eight-minute span.

Luis Diaz equalized after collecting Diogo Jota’s low cross, flicking the ball up, spinning, and volleying home.

Summer commitment After a challenge near the corner of the box by Joe Rothwell, Dominik Szoboszlai fell down, and Mohamed Salah scored the rebound after his penalty was parried by Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

Mac Allister, a £35 million signing from Brighton, was awarded a straight red card midway through the second half for catching the foot of Ryan Christie.

However, Liverpool’s 10 men added a third goal when Szoboszlai’s low attempt was deflected by Neto and Jota scored from close range.

Decisions that are divisive and entertaining
Liverpool currently has four points from two games this season, following a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, while Bournemouth has just one point from their first two.

Both managers are likely to be dissatisfied with refereeing rulings, with Liverpool’s penalty proving to be a soft judgment since Rothwell made minor contact with Hungary captain Szoboszlai as he extended out his leg.

Klopp will be dissatisfied with the decision to dismiss Mac Allister for what appeared to be a genuine attempt to win the ball.

While the challenge did not appear to be malicious, the former Brighton midfielder’s boot was high when he caught Christie.

The Liverpool supporters booed the decision, while Klopp sought to console the Argentine as he walked off the field following an unfortunate start to his Anfield debut.
