Fulham falls to Liverpool, setting up a Chelsea final.

In the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Liverpool defeated Fulham, advancing to the final match at Wembley on February 25 against Chelsea.

With a 2-1 lead from the first leg, the Reds’ draw at Craven Cottage was sufficient to win the match.

With the help of a deflection, Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead early on when he chested down a diagonal pass from Jarell Quansah, cut inside, and beat Bernd Leno at his near post with ease.

The hosts under Marco Silva had their moments and were deserving of their equalizer that evening when Issa Diop headed in a deflected shot from Harry Wilson.

Caoimhin Kelleher stopped Wilson’s long-range effort to keep the game from going to extra time, but another Fulham goal would have sealed the match.

But despite their best efforts, the Cottagers were unable to get a second goal, and they will have to wait for their first-ever EFL Cup final.

This weekend, both teams will play in the FA Cup fourth round: Liverpool will play Norwich at home on Sunday, while Fulham will host Newcastle on Saturday.

Chelsea defeated Middlesbrough, a Championship team, 6-1 on Tuesday to secure their spot at Wembley. Middlesbrough had won the first leg 1-0.

Liverpool completes the task.
Liverpool looked comfortable up until the 75th minute and could have led by more, but they managed to overcome despite a nerve-wracking finish despite some excellent Fulham play.

After a trophy-less 2022–2023 season, Liverpool is just 90 minutes away from winning its record 14th League Cup final.

With a great new-look squad, Jurgen Klopp has given the Premier League leaders hope for a domestic triple. They have only suffered a home loss all season, which came on September 30, away to Tottenham in the Premier League.

They have depth as well, having changed their starting lineup 191 times this season across all competitions—56 more than any other Premier League team.

After Darwin Nunez came close to winning the match multiple times, Liverpool had multiple opportunities to end the tie after Diaz’s early goal calmed any initial jitters.

Diaz of Colombia had the ball in the net twice, but Nunez’s offside flag prevented the goal from being scored.

The Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson was not used as a substitute as he was included in the squad for the first time since he had a shoulder injury in October.

For Fulham, who were attempting to make it to the competition final for the first time, it was a significant night. There was a sense that this could be a memorable evening at Craven Cottage as supporters were handed flags to wave as the players emerged.

After Tosin Adarabioyo beat Kelleher to the ball with his head, Andreas Pereira came agonizingly close to scoring when he struck the post from a tight angle.

The hosts had hope restored when replacement Wilson found Diop, who pushed the ball home with his thigh for his first goal since October 2022.

However, they ultimately were unable to produce a convincing opportunity to extend the game by half an hour.
