The FBI has charged a man with stealing Dorothy’s Wizard of Oz slippers.

A guy has been prosecuted in the United States with stealing the famed red slippers worn by Judy Garland’s character Dorothy in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

The priceless shoes were discovered in an FBI operation in 2018 after they were stolen from a museum in August 2005, but no arrests were made at the time.

Terry Martin, 76, of Minnesota, was charged with theft of a valuable work of art by federal authorities on Tuesday.

The rediscovered slippers are one of only four pairs known to exist.

A robber stole the shoes from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, after smashing through a window in the building’s rear door. According to CBS News, the BBC’s US partner, no fingerprints were found and no alert was triggered.

They were discovered during a sting operation conducted by the FBI’s art crime unit. Federal prosecutors in North Dakota and the FBI’s Minneapolis Division are handling the case.
