Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane will have a medical at Bayern Munich.

Tottenham has given Harry Kane permission to travel to Germany for a medical at Bayern Munich. Kane is the captain of England.

On Thursday, a deal between Bayern and Spurs valued at more than 100 million euros (£86.4 million) was reached.

Kane, who has 280 goals in 435 games and is Tottenham’s all-time leading scorer, was then given the option to move.

Kane’s contract had one year left, and it was unlikely that he would continue with the team.

If no unforeseen problems arise, Kane’s transfer will be finished in time for the Bundesliga season to begin the following week.

The striker was believed to want his future resolved before the start of the season, but negotiations took Bayern most of the summer to get to the point where Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was open to a trade.

This summer, Manchester United had been mentioned as a potential destination for Kane, but it was unclear whether Levy would have been open to selling him to another Premier League team.

He had the option of completing his contract’s final year before departing on a free transfer in 2024.

The England striker postponed his return to preseason workouts due to Manchester City’s bid to sign him in 2021, but he participated in Tottenham’s preseason tour of Australia and South East Asia as talks with Bayern proceeded, making his final appearance on Sunday against Shakhtar Donetsk.

On Sunday, Spurs will play Brentford in their opening game of the year, while on Saturday, Bayern will play RB Leipzig in the German Super Cup.

With 213 goals from 320 games in the English top division, Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times (in 2015–16, 2016–17, and 2020–21). He only needed 48 more goals to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record.

Following the news, Shearer jokingly said on social media that it is time for Kane to leave the Premier League since his departure would preserve the record-breaking total of 260 goals scored by the former Newcastle striker in the top flight.

With 58 goals for his country, England’s all-time best scorer has never captured a major championship with either club or nation.

Bayern Munich won the German Cup 20 times and the Champions League six times in their 33rd season, which was also their 11th consecutive season to win the Bundesliga.

After being hired as Tottenham’s new manager this summer, Ange Postecoglou had pledged to explain to Kane his “vision” for the team, claiming he wanted the forward to stay.
