Wimbledon 2023 results: Aryna Sabalenka defeats Madison Keys to go to the semi-finals

With a strong performance against American Madison Keys at Wimbledon, second seed Aryna Sabalenka advanced to her fourth consecutive Grand Slam semi-final.

In a 6-2 6-4 triumph on Court One, the Belarusian, who won the Australian Open in January, was rarely pushed.

Sabalenka will compete in the final against either incumbent champion Elena Rybakina or 2022 runner-up Ons Jabeur.

If she makes it to Saturday’s final, she will take over as world number one from Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka trailed 4-2 in the second set after blasting through the first, but the challenge seemed to push her to find another gear in her already high level.

She broke back twice and served out the victory, finishing it with a thunderous serve that Keys could only send long on her second match point.

Sabalenka will compete in her second Wimbledon semi-final after losing in three sets to Czech Karolina Pliskova two years ago, and she believes her game has improved since then.

“I can’t wait to play my second semi-final and hopefully do better,” she remarked on the court.

“I’ve changed a lot since the semi-final. I put in a lot of effort and believe I am now a different player.”
