According to the company, Roblox boasts more than 60 million daily users, but it has faced criticism for poor content regulation.

Other announcements include a new character creation tool, Roblox Connect, and a full release of Meta’s VR platform Quest.

It will be released in October 2023 on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Previously, it could only be played on computers, mobile devices, and Microsoft’s Xbox One console.

Roblox is making a significant move to solidify its status as one of the world’s most popular gaming platforms.

It’s unclear how popular it is, but according to Bloomberg in 2020, two-thirds of all US youngsters aged nine to twelve play the game.

In the same year, a Statista poll of 400,000 UK children found Roblox to be far more popular than its nearest competitor, with 67% of youngsters stating they played it, compared to 23% who said they played Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time.

Its appeal originates from its emphasis on creativity; rather than being a standard game, it allows users to create their own games within it. Roblox, in reality, refers its gamers as developers.

These producers, who are frequently children, can build games and potentially earn in-game cash known as Robux from other players.

It is frequently commended for allowing young people to get into game design and be creative, but its independence and popularity have also brought it under investigation.

The NSPCC and Childline notified the BBC in 2022 that the number of youngsters phoning their helpline with worries about Roblox had climbed fivefold since the pandemic.

The announcement was made at Roblox’s annual Developers Conference.

Roblox also stated that an open beta version launched earlier this year on Meta Quest was well-received.
