England’s Ollie Pope will miss the rest of the summer because he hurt his shoulder during the Ashes in 2023.

During the second Test at Lord’s, which Australia won to go up 2-0 in the series, England’s vice-captain was hurt when he dove into the field.

On Monday, scans showed that Pope, who is 25 years old, would need surgery. This means he won’t be able to play for the rest of the summer.

The most likely replacement for the third Test, which starts on Thursday at Headingley, is batsman Dan Lawrence.

“A rough summer week that showed the best and worst of cricket.”
Broad thinks that Cummins will be sorry. Bairstow announced the summer 2024 plans for both the men’s and women’s teams in England.
Lawrence, who is 25 years old and from Essex, is the only extra pitcher on England’s team. England has said that they won’t call up a cover for the Leeds Test. This means that wicketkeeper Ben Foakes from Surrey won’t be called back.

Lawrence has played 11 Tests and has a batting average of 29. He hasn’t played since the tour to the West Indies in March 2022, when captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum were in charge.

Pope has hurt his right shoulder. He had surgery on his left shoulder in 2020 after dislocating it twice.

This time, he hurt himself in the first innings at Lord’s, but he still went back out and hit 42 runs.

The right-hander then went out on the field during Australia’s second innings, even though the judges didn’t make it clear that he had to. This made the injury worse.

At the beginning of the summer, he scored 205 against Ireland. In the Ashes, he got 31, 14, 42, and 13.

One unusual way to replace him in Leeds would be to move the hitters up a spot and put Moeen Ali back at number seven. Chris Woakes could also be brought in as a bowler to help the batting even more.

In a press meeting before the game on Tuesday, former captain Joe Root did not rule out moving up to number three, where he has batted 33 times.
