Serbia seized the lead in the semi-finals after Miomir Kecmanovic defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the first singles match, 6-7 (7-9) 6-2 6-1.

Sinner, however, showed class by defeating world number one Djokovic 6-2 2-6 7-5 to square the tie.

Sinner and Lorenzo Sonego then upset Djokovic and Kecmanovic in the doubles, winning 6-3, 6-4.

What happened in the semi-finals on Saturday?
An exciting day in Malaga began with a spirited opening set between Kecmanovic and Musetti, which the swashbuckling Italian won on a tie-break.

However, as the match progressed, it became evident that Musetti was beginning to struggle physically, and the consistent Kecmanovic easily won the second set before sweeping through the third to put Serbia ahead.

Sinner saved three set points in a high-quality second singles round to hand Djokovic his first Davis Cup defeat since a retired against Juan Martin del Potro 12 years – and 21 matches – ago.

This was Djokovic and Sinner’s third meeting in 12 days, following their two wins at the ATP Finals in Turin last week.

Sinner was unplayable in the first set, as the 24-time Grand Slam champion appeared unexpectedly lost on court, but Djokovic rallied to square the match as Sinner’s performance plummeted.

Sinner survived three match points from 5-4 and 40-0 down in the deciding set, then broke Djokovic before serving out the match in a rowdy atmosphere.
