Carmelo Anthony has announced his retirement from the NBA after a 20-year career.

The 38-yearold was a 10-time NBA All-Star and one of the most prolific scorers in basketball history.

Anthony announced his decision to retire from the Los Angeles Lakers in a video montage on his Instagram account in April 2022.

“I remember the days when I had nothing, just a ball on the court and a dream with something more,” he recalled.

“However, basketball was my outlet.” My motivation was strong. My communities, the cities I proudly represented, and the fans that helped me along the way.”

Anthony was drafted third overall by the Denver Nuggets in 2003 and transferred to the New York Knicks in February 2011.

He signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2017 before moving on to the Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Over the span of 20 NBA seasons, he scored 28,289 points at an average of 22.5 points per game, ranking him seventh all-time in the league.

Anthony also won three gold medals in a row as a member of the US Olympic squad in 2008, 2012, and 2016, as well as a bronze in 2004.

“I will be eternally grateful to those people and places because they shaped me,” he continued.

“But now it’s time for me to say good-by: to the court where I made my name, to the game that gave me meaning and pride.”
