Luton 3–4 Arsenal: Another late goal for the Gunners “showing spirit”

Ally McCoist said it best when he talked about Arsenal’s 4-3 win over a tough Luton Town team. Declan Rice’s 97th-minute winner gave the Gunners the win after falling behind.

Arsenal, who is currently in first place in the Premier League, was seconds away from leaving Kenilworth Road with a tie. If they had, Liverpool would have had the chance to move ahead of them when they play Sheffield United on Wednesday.

Instead, Mikel Arteta’s team is now five points ahead, at least for the next 24 hours. They are continuing to show the kind of fight that will keep them in the title race longer than they were last season.

“That could be a very important three points at the end of the season,” McCoist said as he called the game for Amazon Prime.

“It is a winning mentality,” said Roberto Martinez, who used to manage Everton. Luton was going to make it hard, but Arsenal found a way.

Gunners manager Arteta said it was “a beautiful win” and added, “Luton are so good at set pieces, and they really made us fight for the game.”

Last season, Arsenal’s title hopes faded as injuries and tiredness made them less effective. In the end, Manchester City won the title, but the players’ mindset was called into question after they lost two-goal leads in the final few games of the season.

However, this time they have a “never-give-up” spirit that has helped them win a number of games late.
