The Ashes 2023: England gives fast bowler Lauren Filer her debut against Australia at Trent Bridge.

Lauren Filer of the Western Storm will make her England debut in the Ashes Test against Australia, which begins on Thursday at Trent Bridge.

Filer, a 22-year-old right-arm pace bowler, with eight wickets in four Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy games and five in the Charlotte Edwards Cup this summer.

Danni Wyatt, 32, who has played 245 white-ball games for England, will also make her Test debut.

Kate Cross and Lauren Bell join Filer in the seam attack.

The spin option is left-armer Sophie Ecclestone, with all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt offering another pace dimension to England’s team.

All-rounder Danielle Gibson and pace bowler Issy Wong have been dropped from England’s 13-man squad, while Alice Capsey and Alice Davidson-Richards were released earlier this week to join the A squad.

Tammy Beaumont, Emma Lamb, Heather Knight (captain), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Sophia Dunkley, Danielle Wyatt, Amy Jones (wk), Sophie Ecclestone, Kate Cross, Lauren Filer, Lauren Bell are the England team to face Australia.

Filer was a late addition to the squad, with head coach Jon Lewis stating that her added pace made her a “genuine wicket-taking threat” and offered the attack “a point of difference that could impact a Test match at any point in the game.”

Last season, she got 11 wickets in six Rachel Heyhoe-Flint Trophy matches and one wicket in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

Wyatt, who has over 4,000 international runs across formats, makes her red-ball debut, offering depth to England’s batting.

She has been chosen over Gibson, who, while capable with the bat, is more of a bowling all-rounder.

The Test marked the start of the multi-format series, with England attempting to reclaim the Ashes from Australia.

The Test will award four points, with two points awarded for each win in the three T20s and three one-day internationals that follow.
