Barcelona was declared La Liga champions after winning the derby.

Barcelona won their first La Liga title since 2018-19 with four games to go, thanks to a stunning victory over city rivals Espanyol.

By halftime, Barcelona led 3-0, with Robert Lewandowski scoring his 20th league goal of the season before Alejandro Balde, 19, increased the lead.

Jules Kounde’s header made it 4-0 after Lewandowski added the third.

Espanyol reduced their deficit thanks to Javier Puado and Joselu, although they remain towards the bottom of the standings.

With 12 points to play for, Barcelona has 85 points, 14 more than nearest opponent Real Madrid.

It is their first La Liga title since the departure of club legend Lionel Messi in August 2021, and their first since Xavi was appointed manager in November 2021.

Meanwhile, Espanyol are in danger of being relegated from La Liga for the second time in four seasons after suffering their ninth league defeat in 11 games.

With four games remaining, they are four points from safety.
