Brighton reject Chelsea’s £70 million proposal for Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo.

In January, the Ecuador international requested to leave Brighton due to interest from Arsenal.

Brighton declined, and Caicedo signed a new contract in March that goes through 2027.

However, he remains a great target for a number of Premier League clubs, with Chelsea being the most interested.

On Saturday, Chelsea will face Brighton in the first game of the Premier League’s six-team pre-season tournament in Philadelphia.

Caicedo will fly immediately from Ecuador to the United States, while Brighton’s squad will depart on Tuesday.

He joined Brighton from Ecuadorian team Independiente del Valle in February 2021 for a reported £4.5m but did not play that season.

Caicedo spent the first part of the 2021-22 season on loan with Belgian club Beerschot until being recalled by Brighton in January 2022.

He debuted in the Premier League in April 2022 and has appeared in 53 games for Brighton, scoring twice.

Caicedo helped Brighton finish sixth in the Premier League last season, securing a place in the Europa League group stage.
