Carlos Alcaraz loses to Alexander Zverev in the ATP Finals 2023, while Daniil Medvedev triumphs.

Carlos Alcaraz was defeated on his ATP Finals debut in Turin, Italy, when Alexander Zverev came back to win.

Wimbledon winner Alcaraz was defeated by Germany’s Zverev, who won the title in 2018 and 2021.

It is the first time the 20-year-old Spaniard has lost three consecutive matches since March 2021, when he was ranked below the top 100 in the world.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev defeated fellow Russian Andrey Rublev 6-4 6-2 in the day’s other Red Group singles match.

In the doubles, Britain’s Joe Salisbury and American partner Rajeev Ram began their title defense with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Australia’s Matthew Ebden and India’s Rohan Bopanna.

And, in their final event together, Britain’s Neal Skupski and Dutch partner Wesley Koolhof started their campaign with a 6-3 6-4 triumph over Australians Jason Kubler and Rinky Hijikata.
