David Warner bats 163 as Australia defeats Pakistan in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Before Pakistan came back, Warner and Mitchell Marsh shared a 259-run first-wicket stand.

Shaheen Afridi took 5-54 to help limit Australia to 367-9.

Pakistan got off to a good start thanks to Imam-ul-Haq (70) and Abdullah Shafique (64), but Australia closed the game out when Mohammad Rizwan was bowled for 46 by Adam Zampa.

Reactions to Australia’s stunning victory over Pakistan
Why do the audiences appear to be so little at the Cricket World Cup?
Pakistan had already chased a World Cup record score of 345 against Sri Lanka earlier in the competition, but fell short here.

In a World Cup that has been devoid of close games, this one threatened to go to the wire before Pakistan’s batting crumbled.

A 134-run opening partnership from Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq set the tone, but both men succumbed to the medium pace of Marcus Stoinis (2-40).

Australia skipper Pat Cummins atoned for an earlier blunder with a fine catch to dismiss rival Babar Azam (18), before Rizwan’s dismissal, stranded in front of the remarkable Zampa, virtually signaled the end of the match as a fight.

Warner and Marsh had earlier batted with vigour, which had been missing from Australia’s efforts in the competition thus far.
