In a complaint, Disney accused Florida Governor Ron DeSantis of organizing a “government retaliation” campaign.

The new legal action intensifies the conflict between the entertainment mogul and the Republican politician.

Since last year, when the firm stood out against a law prohibiting talks of sexual orientation or gender identity in primary schools, the two sides have been at odds.

Officials are planning to cancel a development agreement involving the company’s theme park.

Mr. DeSantis’ efforts to establish control over Disney’s activities, according to the company, have jeopardized its operations and infringed its constitutional rights.

“Disney regrets that it has come to this,” stated the company’s parks division in the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Florida.

“However, having exhausted all efforts to reach an agreement, the company is forced to file this lawsuit in order to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain state officials.”
