Eder Militao: The Real Madrid defender will be absent for several months due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Real Madrid defender Eder Militao suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

The 25-year-old Brazilian is the second Real Madrid player to suffer the same injury this week, after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on Thursday.

Militao was forced to leave the game early after hyperextending his left knee.

According to the club, he will “undergo surgery in the coming days.”

Following his summer transfer from Borussia Dortmund, England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored his first goal for Real Madrid against Athletic Bilbao.

Militao’s injury has left Carlo Ancelotti with only three fit centre-backs: David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Nacho.
