Emma Lamb withdraws from the India vs. England Test team due to a back issue.

Emma Lamb has been ruled out of England’s one-off Test against India due to a back issue.

Lamb, 25, has returned to the United Kingdom to see a spinal surgeon.

Maia Bouchier, a batter, and spinner Kirstie Gordon have been called up to the squad for the four-day Test, which begins on December 14 in Mumbai.

Bouchier has no Test caps, whereas Gordon played one match against Australia in 2019 but has not played for England since.

Bouchier, 25, is a member of Heather Knight’s squad for the three-match T20 series that precedes the Test, but she did not play in England’s first 38-run victory.

Gordon, 26, was a member of England A’s recent 2-1 T20 series victory against India A, and has remained in India with the whole squad since.

Due to Lamb’s absence as a specialist opener, one of Danni Wyatt, Sophia Dunkley, or Alice Capsey will likely replace Tammy Beaumont at the top of the order, with all three having played the role in white-ball cricket.

The final two Twenty20 matches will be played on Saturday and Sunday at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, before the Test match goes to the DY Patil Stadium.
