Erik ten Hag thinks England World Cup champion Sir Bobby Charlton will always be an inspiration to Manchester United after his death.

Ten Hag anticipates an emotional Old Trafford atmosphere when FC Copenhagen visits in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

It will be United’s first home game since the death of club legend Charlton was confirmed on Saturday.

“Every day, he is a huge inspiration for us,” Ten Hag added.

“He’s standing in front of Old Trafford, alongside Denis Law and George Best [in the statue].” He is always by our side. I’m sure it’ll be an even more emotional evening.”

The details of a planned homage to the 1966 World Cup winner are still to be finalized, but the players will wear black armbands and there will be a minute’s silence.

The ‘Holy Trinity’ statue outside the stadium has become the focal point for floral tributes to Charlton, who won three league titles and the FA Cup with United before captaining them to their first European Cup victory in 1968, ten years after the Munich tragedy that changed his life.
