Everton’s financial rules violation results in an instant 10-point Premier League deduction.

English premier league teams can only lose a maximum of £105 million over a three-year period. An independent commission determined that Everton lost £124.5 million in 2021–2022 alone.

Everton now sits 19th in the standings as a result of the largest sporting penalty in the competition’s history.

The team declared that they would file an appeal and expressed that they were “both shocked and disappointed”.

The Premier League did not disclose the details of the club’s alleged violation when it referred Everton to an independent commission in March.

In that same month, Everton announced a loss of £44.7 million for 2021–22, marking their fifth consecutive year of financial losses.

After a five-day hearing, they acknowledged that they had violated the profit and sustainability rules (PSR) for the fiscal year 2021–2022. The commission ruled in favor of the Premier League.
