Sotheby’s auction house is selling a pair of rare Apple shoes for $50,000 (£38,969).
In the 1990s, the shoes were made just for workers and were given away at a conference.
No one has ever bought a pair of them before.
Sotheby’s said that the old rainbow Apple logo on the tongue and next to the laces will be “highly sought after,” and that the top is mostly white leather.
The store called them “one of the most obscure” to show how rare they were and how much they were worth on the second-hand market.
The Omega x Apple sneakers are “new in the box,” but the description says they have a yellowing around the midsoles and other flaws.
The shoes are a US size 10.5, a European size 41, or a UK size 8.5. They have a hole in the heel for air cushioning. There is also a second pair of red ties in the box.
Over time, the value of Apple artifacts has gone through the roof, and many of its old gadgets are now high-priced collectors’ items. However, not all of its products have been hits.
There was a classic game system called Pippin that was way too expensive, a social network called Ping that didn’t work out, and the Newton MessagePad, which was called a flop.
A first-edition, unopened 4GB iPhone sold at auction in the US for more than $190,000 (£145,000). This was one of the company’s most successful sales in recent years.
Even though Apple is known for its gadgets and new ideas, tech fans have sometimes been able to buy clothes and items from the company.
There was a line of clothes called the Apple Collection. It had t-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, and hats with the rainbow logo and Macintosh computer pictures on them.
It was meant to support the Apple brand and build a sense of community, but it wasn’t a big hit at the time, so it was stopped.
In 2015, Apple and the high-end fashion brand Hermès worked together to make a line of watch bands. In 2020, it came out with a strap for black history month.
