France suspends iPhone 12 sales due to radiation levels.

On Tuesday, the French radio frequency watchdog ordered the tech giant to repair current phones.

The ANFR has informed Apple that if the problem cannot be resolved by a software update, it must recall every iPhone 12 ever sold in the nation.

However, the World Health Organization has repeatedly worked to alleviate concerns about mobile phone radiation.

According to its website, there is no evidence to establish that low-level electromagnetic field exposure is detrimental to humans.

The iPhone 12 was released in September 2020 and is still available worldwide.

Apple told the BBC that it was appealing the ANFR’s examination and that it had presented the regulator with lab reports from the tech giant and third parties demonstrating that the device complied with all applicable rules.

According to the company, the iPhone 12 is compliant with global radiation rules.

According to Reuters, France’s digital minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, stated that the decision was made owing to radiation levels exceeding the permitted threshold.

According to him, the ANFR discovered that the iPhone 12’s Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) was higher than what was legally allowed.

“Apple is expected to respond within the next two weeks,” he said.

“If they do not, I am prepared to order a recall of all iPhone 12 units in circulation.” The regulation applies to everyone, including the internet behemoths.”

France will share its results with other regulators throughout the EU, which Barrot believes will result in a “snowball effect.”

The ANFR requires that the SAR of devices be evaluated against two alternative ways of using a phone.

The first is a “membre” – or limb – check, which is performed when a phone is in close proximity to a person’s body, such as when it is handled or placed in a trouser pocket. This has a SAR limit of four watts per kilogram.

According to the regulator, the device’s “membre” SAR was 5.74 watts per kilogram, which was greater than the limit.
