Jenni Hermoso is not among the 15 Women’s World Cup winners called up by Spain.

After then-football federation boss Luis Rubiales kissed forward Hermoso after last month’s final, a substantial number of players boycotted the team.

Rubiales resigned as a result of the fallout.

On Friday, 39 players, including 21 of the 23 World Cup champions, said that they would continue their protest until further adjustments were made.

Rubiales was issued a restraining order in Spain following a World Cup kiss.

This was the first team announcement made by new coach Montse Tome, who took over for Jorge Vilda, a close associate of Rubiales, when he was fired earlier this month.

Tome, Vilda’s assistant manager, is the first woman to be appointed as Spain’s women’s boss.

It is unclear whether the players who have been called up have ended their strike, with Tome indicating she had spoken with those chosen but refused to reveal what was discussed.

The Spanish football federation (RFEF) had earlier on Monday asked strikers to return to the national squad.

“We stand with Jenni,” Tome stated.

“We believe that this is the best way to protect her, but we are relying on Jenni.”

Spain plays Sweden in the Nations League on Friday and Switzerland on Tuesday, September 26.

Mapi Leon and Patri Guijarro of Barcelona, who were left out of Spain’s World Cup roster after signing an open letter criticizing then-coach Vilda, have been appointed to Tome’s squad.

“It’s the start of a new phase, and the clock is ticking,” Tome explained.

“There is nothing behind us, and we really want to connect with these players.”

The 39 players boycotting the national team issued a statement on Friday saying they would not return unless more requirements were met, including reorganizing specific departments within the RFEF, and that they did not yet “feel in a safe place.”

The RFEF reacted by pledging to implement changes “to restore the entity’s functioning.”

The Spanish government also guaranteed players that improvements would be made and that women would be more represented in the federation.

Rubiales was barred from approaching Hermoso, who claimed the kiss was not consensual, after the 33-year-old filed a court complaint.

Rubiales denied sexually abusing Hermoso in court for the first time last Friday.
