Mason Mount: Manchester United and Chelsea reach an agreement to sign the English midfielder

Manchester United and Chelsea have reached an agreement for Mason Mount to join them on a five-year deal worth £55 million, plus an additional £5 million in add-ons.

After United’s qualification for the Champions League for the upcoming season, Erik ten Hag will make Mount, 24, his first acquisition of the summer. Ten Hag is looking to improve his team.

Chelsea have to sell before June 30 in order to allay Financial Fair Play worries after spending £600 million last season.

At age six, Mount joined Chelsea.

United’s initial three offers were turned down by Chelsea, but negotiations between the two teams resumed this week in an effort to break the deadlock.

It is believed that Chelsea would have preferred to keep Mount, but since his current contract was about to expire the next year, they were unable to come to an agreement.

Mount, who has 195 appearances and 33 goals for Chelsea since making his professional debut in 2019, missed the rest of the domestic season due to injury, which resulted in the Blues’ lowest finish in more than 25 years and their 12th place finish.

What will the English midfielder offer to Manchester United, according to Mason Mount?
Although Ten Hag prioritized signing a new striker this summer, Mount’s versatility is thought to have made him a desirable alternative for the club. United finished third in the Premier League.

Mount played for Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final victory versus Manchester City, which the team won 1-0.

With the Blues, he also captured the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

He has 36 England caps and five goals to his name. He was a member of Gareth Southgate’s team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Mount played in 29 Eredivisie games while on loan at Vitesse in 2017–18, having progressed via Chelsea’s youth.

The following season, he was loaned to Derby County, where he scored eight goals in 35 Championship games for the Rams, who lost to Aston Villa 2-1 in the play-off final.

When Mount returned to Chelsea in 2019, he finally broke through under the newly appointed Lampard and became as a crucial member of the Stamford Bridge squad.

Mauricio Pochettino, a former manager of Tottenham, was hired by Chelsea last month to replace interim manager Lampard, who had taken over when Graham Potter was fired.

In an effort to trim down their roster, the Blues last week sold Mateo Kovacic to Manchester City and Kai Havertz to Arsenal. Ruben Loftus-Cheek, a fellow midfielder, is on the verge of joining AC Milan.

While N’Golo Kante has reached an agreement with a fellow Saudi Pro League team, Al-Ittihad, Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly have already relocated to Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.

Tiemoue Bakayoko, a midfielder who spent the previous season on loan at AC Milan, also departed the team as a free agent.
