Masters 2024: To go to the semi-finals, Ali Carter defeats reigning champion Judd Trump.
At Alexandra Palace, Ali Carter defeated the defending champion Judd Trump 6-5 to go to the Masters semi-finals.
Carter scored three half-centuries and a break of 103 to take a 4-2 lead in a see-saw match.
Subsequently, Trump scored an incredible 129 to start a comeback, winning three straight to take a 5-4 lead.
But Carter turned in a nervous 10th frame with an incredible 43 clearance to tie the match, and he won it all with a strong 64 run in the final.
“You must make an effort to cling to these unique times. It’s a feather in my cap to make a clearing like that under those conditions and in front of that kind of crowd, Carter told BBC Sport.
“I seemed like I was going to win 5-3 in front of the crowd, then I lost my cool for a few frames.
“I had worked really hard but [I was] delighted to make an unbelievable clearance to force a decider and then how I held myself together I don’t know.”
The 2023 World Championship semi-final between Mark Allen and Mark Selby is rescheduled for later on Friday (19:00 GMT), with the winner facing Carter in the final four on Saturday night.
