‘Serious’ condition after cycling accident for Paris St. Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico

Goalkeeper Sergio Rico of Paris St-Germain is reportedly in intensive care in a “serious” state following a horseback riding mishap.

Rico, 29, was riding in Huelva, Spain’s El Rocio region when he collided with a bolting horse and lost control, according to local media.

The Spaniard was transported to a hospital in Seville by helicopter.

With a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg on Saturday, PSG secured a record 11th league title. Rico sat on the bench.

After the team was given a break after their victory, he had gone back to his native Spain.

He is in critical condition, according to a PSG representative on Sunday.

Later, the club said it was “in constant contact with his loved ones”.

The former Seville goalkeeper played the 2018–19 season on loan at Fulham of the Premier League before joining the French champions in 2020.

He joined PSG from Sevilla in September 2019, and since then, he has played in 29 matches.
