Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin faces a period out due to a facial injury.

Calvert-Lewin, 26, was taken out after 38 minutes after colliding with Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez while battling for the ball.

He has a bruised face and will be evaluated further by the club’s medical team this week.

Before returning to action, he must now undergo the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Dyche ‘could have taken the whole team off’ in Villa defeat Calvert-Lewin attempted to play on but was visibly suffering and seemed to be jeered by his own fans as he walked off the ground.

Before proceeding through the tube, the Englishman responded by raising his thumb in their direction.

After the game, manager Sean Dyche stated that they were “hoping it was just a knock,” but it appears like Calvert-Lewin’s injury is more serious than originally thought.

Calvert-Lewin suffered with injuries previous season, scoring just two goals, and has only scored four goals in the league since August 2021.

He has only played 90 minutes four times since the start of last season, and only once since January.
