Simona Halep: The two-time Grand Slam winner has been banned for four years for doping.

An impartial panel ruled that the 31-year-old Romanian had engaged in “intentional” anti-doping offenses.

At last year’s US Open, Halep tested positive for the usage of roxadustat.

In 2022, she was also found guilty of utilizing an unnamed forbidden drug or procedure after anomalies in her biological passport were discovered.

The panel accepted Halep’s claim that she had taken a tainted supplement, but determined that this would not have resulted in the roxadustat levels identified in her urine sample.

The panel also ruled that they had no reason to reject the united “strong opinion” formed by three independent specialists that “likely doping” was the cause of her biological passport abnormalities.

Halep has been temporarily suspended from October 2022, which means she will be eligible to compete again on October 7, 2026, when she would be 35 years old.

The tribunal’s conclusions, on the other hand, can be challenged.
