Southgate watches the England U21s reach the quarterfinals.

Anthony Gordon opened the goal in the 16th minute with a header from a Morgan Gibbs-White cross.

England’s second goal came in the 68th minute, when Gibbs-White found Emile Smith Rowe, who fired in a low drive.

The victory propels England to the top of Group C.

They will meet the Group A runners-up, with hosts Georgia, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Portugal all capable of qualifying for the knockout stage from that pool.

Southgate was in attendance at the Ramaz Shengelia Stadium in Kutaisi, and a lot of the U21 side will have impressed the Three Lions manager.

Nottingham Forest’s Gibbs-White was outstanding, while Arsenal’s Smith Rowe, the sole senior player in the team, scored his second goal in as many games after having an opener disallowed.

“It’s a long tournament, and we all just want to do well, and I just want to play and progress,” Lille’s Gomes said.

“As we can see with Marc Guehi, the manager, Southgate, is giving a lot of young players opportunities.” There has never been a better time to be a young England player.”

Israel rarely threatened, and Oscar Gloukh’s free-kick on the stroke of half-time was saved low by Manchester City’s James Trafford.

Germany fell 2-1 to the Czech Republic in the other group game, and the reigning champions must beat Lee Carsley’s England, who have yet to concede, on Wednesday to advance.

Smith Rowe believes the team has a good chance of winning the tournament.

“We discussed it before we came over here. We are confident in our ability to make a statement in this event and believe we can go all the way and win it. “We just have to take each game as it comes,” he remarked.

“With only a few days between games, we need to recover quickly.” It’s a terrific group of guys. Everyone assists one another. Even the lads who haven’t played are assisting us in supporting the team.”

England has gotten acclaim for including so many aggressive players in their starting lineup.

“I still think there’s a lot more to come from this team,” stated manager Lee Carsley.

“They can advance to higher levels.” We have to improve. I’ve been impressed with Anthony, and we’re trying to put him in unusual situations.”
