2023 World Series: Texas Rangers defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 11-7 to take a 3-1 lead.

With an early run glut that helped them defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-7 and grab a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, the Texas Rangers are one victory away from winning their first World Series.

The visitors dominated Arizona early on, leading 10-0 after scoring five runs in each of the second and third innings.

Despite a late comeback, the Diamondbacks were unable to overcome the deficit.

Wednesday night’s game five is scheduled to take place in Phoenix once more; a victory for Arizona is necessary to maintain the series.

Should that happen, the teams would go back to Texas for Friday’s game six and maybe Saturday’s championship match.

Both teams hoped to get off to a quick start at Chase Field because they had both gone undefeated in 2023 postseason games after taking the lead.

Arizona had decided against using a traditional starter in favor of a “bullpen game,” which consists of a series of brief appearances by relief pitchers.

However, Josh Jung’s double to start the second inning, his groundout to third base, and Miguel Castro’s wild pitch that scored him gave the bullpen corps a first chance at it.

After Marcus Semien launched a two-run triple, the margin was increased to 5-0 by Corey Seager’s third home run of the World Series.

And after Texas loaded the bases in the third, they kept scoring, taking a double-digit lead thanks to home runs to left field from Semien and Travis Jankowski and two RBI doubles.

Amazingly, with the Rangers down to their final out of the inning, all 10 runs had already been scored at that point.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, behind 11-1, the D-backs did mount a mini-rally when Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a three-run home run to cut the lead to 11-5.

Gabriel Moreno’s two-RBI single with the hosts down to their final strike in the ninth inning put the score 11-7, but a dream come true was short lived as Texas extended their all-time record postseason winning streak on the road to 10 games.

Adolis Garcia, a star slugger for the Rangers, and pitcher Max Scherzer, who departed game three on Monday due to injury, will not return for the Fall Classic. Both are no longer eligible to return and have been replaced on the 26-man World Series roster.
