A Tampa Bay Buccaneers player’s 2-year-old daughter drowns in a swimming pool.

Police reported that the 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett drowned in the family’s Florida swimming pool on Sunday.

After a child fell into a pool, police were called to a Beach Park residence in Tampa at 9:30 a.m., according to the Tampa Police Department. After being transported to a local hospital, the infant was declared dead shortly after because he or she was unable to be resuscitate.

According to police, it was a tragic accident and there was no criminal activity.

The Buccaneers issued a statement in Barrett and his family’s defense.

“The devastating news of today breaks the hearts of every member of the Buccaneers family. Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family are in our thoughts and prayers during this unbearably trying time, the team said. While there are no words that can truly comfort at this time, we offer our love and support to them as they start to process the profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.

Barrett, 30 years old, has nine seasons of NFL experience. He played his first five years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, winning the Super Bowl in 2015, after entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State.

Barrett committed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. He played on the Buccaneers’ 2021 Super Bowl-winning squad.
