When Chelsea and Manchester City engaged in an intense four-goal thriller that lasted eight goals, defenses were undoubtedly not on top. Ultimately, the major topic of conversation was football.

With the exception of a contentious penalty kick by City that Erling Haaland converted to make the score 1-0, officials and video assistant referees have dominated recent weeks’ events. However, this one was decided by the players and coaches.

Following Haaland’s opening goal, Raheem Sterling scored against his former team, and Thiago Silva, 39, became Chelsea’s oldest goalscorer.

Shortly before the half, Manuel Akanji tied the score for City, and Haaland scored his 49th Premier League goal in his 47th game shortly after.

Following his incredible hat-trick against Tottenham, Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea another point, but Rodri later scored what appeared to be a late winner for City.

But Chelsea got a penalty kick deep into stoppage time that Cole Palmer, a summer transfer from City, hammered home.

Jamie Carragher, a former defender for England and Liverpool, described it as “the Premier League at its best”.

“I think this will be the same,” he stated on Sky Sports, “as everyone seemed to be talking about the game we all watched on Monday [Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Tottenham] for days afterward.”

“It felt right, and it was fantastic, that Chelsea equalized.” It felt fitting that there shouldn’t be a winner in that game, and I know the Man City supporters would be devastated. It was that excellent.

While listening to BBC Radio 5 Live, former Chelsea goalie Mark Schwarzer remarked, “That was an incredible game.” The level of intensity was rather high right away. It was an incredible display of play against the greatest team in the world right now.”

Micah Richards, a former City defender, continued, “That was outstanding. It was excellent. It had everything: tackles, poor defense, and goals.

“Cole Palmer proved his worth by being excellent. In case you were an observer, you received value for your money.”

It’s understandable why the experts were giddy with the spectacle—there were eight goals, two penalties, and a ton of storylines, including former players scoring against their old teams.

Furthermore, they weren’t alone.

Despite only managing a draw at home, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino called it “an amazing evening”.

“The Premier League is the most wonderful league in the world because of how amazing it was. Everyone desires to participate in thrilling sports,” he continued.

“It’s hard to explain since everyone wants to brag about how amazing the game was. The world’s top team, Manchester City, defeated Chelsea, and Chelsea made a valiant effort to get three points.”

Contrary numeral While leading Manchester City, Pep Guardiola has experienced his fair share of pivotal moments, but even he was unable to disguise his enthusiasm for the results his teams achieved.

Only five equalizing goals have ever been scored in a Premier League game; this one was the first since 2009.

“It was a good advert and an entertaining game for the Premier League,” Guardiola added. Every squad aspired to triumph. It wouldn’t have surprised me in the least. Chelsea’s players and team are outstanding.”
