Elon Musk: Twitter hires the top executive from NBCUniversal

Joe Benarroch, a senior NBCUniversal executive, has joined Twitter as Elon Musk continues to reshuffle the leadership of the social media network.

Beginning on Monday, Mr. Benarroch will focus on business operations in his new position.

It happens less than a month after Linda Yaccarino, the vice president of advertising at NBCUniversal, was selected as Twitter’s new CEO.

She will fill the role now held by Mr. Musk, who will continue to play a significant role in the business.

The New York office of Twitter will be Mr. Benarroch’s center of operations, according to an update he made to his LinkedIn profile.

He added the following statement to his announcement of his departure: “I am looking forward to bringing my experience to Twitter, and to working with the entire team to build Twitter 2.0 together.”

On Twitter, Ms. Yaccarino welcomed @benarroch_joe to the flock and said: between one bird and the next.

Mr. Benarroch served as NBCUniversal’s executive vice president for communications, advertising, and partnerships in his previous position. He formerly held a position at the dominant social media company Facebook.

The second head of trust and safety for Twitter under owner Elon Musk reportedly left, according to claims that surfaced late last week.

A month after Elon Musk seized control of the business in November 2022, Ella Irwin replaced departing leader Yoel Roth.

Content moderation, a subject that has received attention since Mr. Musk took control of the company, is the responsibility of the head of trust and safety.

Unknown factors may have led to Ms. Irwin’s resignation. It did come a day after Mr. Musk publicly criticized a Twitter content control choice.

Since spending $44 billion (£35.4 billion) to acquire Twitter, Elon Musk has faced pressure to find a new CEO and turn his attention back to his other companies, such as electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and rocket company SpaceX.

Ms. Yaccarino was appointed as Twitter’s new CEO by Mr. Musk last month.

She would handle business operations at the platform, which has had trouble turning a profit, he added, and she would begin in six weeks.

Mr. Musk declared that he would continue to serve as executive chairman and chief technology officer of the platform.
