News Update

Emma Raducanu loses to Wang Yafan in the 2024 Australian Open.

Raducanu, 21, from Britain lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in her fourth match back after surgery on her wrist and ankle that kept her out for almost nine months.

Early in the third set, Raducanu looked like she was going to get sick, so she went to the doctor to have her blood pressure checked.

She had chances to break back in the decider, though, but Wang hung on.

It was on the same Kia Arena court that Katie Boulter, who is now the British number one, lost to Zheng Qinwen, the 12th seed from China. This is when Raducanu was eliminated.

Their goal was to have an all-British match in the third round, but on Saturday, the Chinese pair will play instead.

Now that Raducanu and Boulter have lost, there are no more British players in the women’s singles.

Cameron Norrie is the only player from the United States still in the singles draws. He came back from being down two sets to win in five sets earlier on Thursday.

It takes five sets for Norrie to win, but Boulter and Draper lose.

He says, “I was in the airport.” Swiatek comes back to win.

Sixth seed Zverev gets lucky against qualifier Klein

There are good signs for Raducanu even though he lost.
When a player comes back after being out for so long, it takes time for them to get back to match form. You will need to be patient with their progress.
