England chooses Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Moeen Ali for the third Test of the Ashes in 2023
For the third Ashes Test, England made three changes by putting in Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Moeen Ali.
Ollie Pope can’t play in the series, but England has decided not to replace him with Dan Lawrence, who is their extra batter.
Instead, Harry Brook moves up to number three, and all-rounders Woakes and Moeen are added to strengthen the bottom order.
Josh Tongue and James Anderson were given the day off, so Wood joined Woakes, Stuart Broad, and Ollie Robinson in the pace charge.
Thursday is when the Test starts at Headingley.
Wood will give the team a fast option, but he missed the first two Tests with a bunch of little injuries.
He will play his first Test since England’s trip to Pakistan last winter, and Woakes will play for the first time since 2022, before captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum took over.
In his nine Tests so far, Brook has never batted higher than number five for Yorkshire. He has batted at three for his country 13 times, with the most recent time being in 2018.
Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Harry Brook, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood, and Ollie Robinson are on the England team.
