Ford introduces the new Ranger for the US market, where there is fierce competition among smaller trucks.

In America, “Ford truck” typically refers to the F-series, which has been the most popular truck for many years. However, it most likely refers to the Ford Ranger in many parts of the world.

180 markets throughout the world offer the Ranger, and in 17 of those, it is the best-selling vehicle of its kind. The Ranger is somewhat of the middle child in the United States, where it was reintroduced in 2018 after a sabbatical in 2011. It is comparable in size and power to both the large Ford F-150 and the little Ford Maverick. It was initially created in Australia as a serious work truck for regions with limited, frequently dangerous roads.

Ford’s vice president of non-electric vehicle product development, Jim Baumbick, referred to the Ranger as “the F-150 for the rest of the world.” According to the US, “It has this really important sweet spot when we think about our customers.”

Ford presented a revised model for the American market on Wednesday along with the Ranger Raptor, a brand-new high-performance variant for this region of the world. Ford’s foray into a market category that is becoming more competitive and full of new vehicles is the new, more rugged-looking Ranger. It will face off against trucks like the Toyota Tacoma, Honda Ridgeline, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier, and Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon from General Motors in the US.

The well-liked Tacoma is anticipated to be updated soon by Toyota, while General Motors recently started selling updated models of its two mid-sized trucks. Just a few years ago, the Nissan Frontier had a facelift that gave it a modern new style and increased sales.

The size of the new Ranger is a little bit closer to that of the F-150 because it is somewhat larger than the outgoing model. Compared to the Ranger of the previous generation, it is around two inches wider and two inches longer.

According to Baumbick, “that allows us to comfortably fit four-by-eight sheets of plywood into the back of the Ranger, and that extra space just provides the utility,” which is something I believe is very, very pertinent to the US client.

The new Ranger comes with a 10-inch touch screen as standard, but a 12-inch screen is also an option.

The 2.3-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder base engine of the Ranger is the same as it is in the current Ranger. But there will also be an optional 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 engine that is bigger and more potent. Either engine will be capable of four-wheel drive.

A model variant of the Ranger that was previously unavailable in the US will now be offered alongside the standard truck: the 405-horsepower high-performance Ranger Raptor.

The Ranger Raptor is intended for off-road driving at high speeds and will have large 33-inch diameter tires. The structure and suspension of the Ranger Raptor have also been specially designed to resist punishing off-road use. Drivers of the Ranger Raptor will be able to choose from a range of on- and off-road driving modes, including ones for navigating slick terrain and traveling quickly through sand.

Before Ford ultimately opted to offer the previous-generation Ford Ranger in North America, it was readily available in many other markets for many years. Although it took a while for the truck to arrive, Baumbick insisted that the US was always a target market.

The business case for manufacturing and marketing the Ranger in this country was aided by Ford Planning for the Ford Bronco SUV, which uses a lot of the Ranger’s engineering. In the same facility in Wayne, Michigan, the two automobiles are produced. Similar to the last Ranger, this new model had been on sale in international countries for less than a year prior to its introduction in North America. According to Baumbick, it continues to have many similarities with the Bronco.

The big F-150’s driver aid features, such Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which enables the driver to control a trailer in reverse using a knob on the dashboard, will also be available on the new Ranger.

The Ranger, at least initially, won’t have access to Ford’s BlueCruise driving assistance system, which lets drivers take their hands off the wheel on some limited-access highways. Prices for the revamped Ranger will start around $34,000 for the base model and $56,000 for the Raptor when it goes on sale later this year.
