IPL 2023: Jos Buttler’s 79 propels Rajasthan Royals to a 57-run victory over Delhi Capitals.

Jos Buttler’s 79 off 51 balls helped Rajasthan Royals beat Delhi Capitals by 57 runs in the Indian Premier League.

England white-ball captain Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 60, put on a 98-run opening stand in 8.3 overs.

Rajasthan’s run rate slowed in the middle overs, but Shimron Hetmyer’s explosive 39 not out off 21 balls propelled them to 199-4.

In response, Delhi captain David Warner hit 65, but the team fell short on 142-9.

Buttler, who was dropped on 18, hit 11 fours and a six in his innings, but Jaiswal was the early aggressor, reaching his half-century in just 25 balls.

As Rajasthan only managed 27 runs between overs 10-15, Delhi fought back to dismiss Jaiswal, followed by Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag for single-figure scores.

Buttler remained to anchor the innings until he was out in the 19th over, but Hetmyer’s four sixes propelled Rajasthan to their massive total.

Trent Boult of New Zealand then gave Rajasthan a perfect start to the second innings with a double-wicket maiden, his second in three games.

He dismissed Prithvi Shaw and Manish Pandey before India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin claimed Rilee Rossouw’s wicket to leave Delhi trailing 36-3.

Warner batted steadily to reach his half-century in 44 balls and added 63 for the fourth wicket with Lalit Yadav – but his strike rate put the other Delhi batters under pressure as they tried to catch up.

Before the spinners ripped through the middle order, Boult finished with figures of 3-29, with Yuzvendra Chahal taking 3-27 and Ashwin 2-25.

Rajasthan now leads the table with two wins from three games, while Delhi is one place lower and still looking for their first win.
