Philippe Clement’s term as Rangers manager got off to a flying start with a resounding victory.

Two thundering Abdallah Sima finishes, each side of a magnificent strike from Nicolas Raskin, propelled Ibrox to victory, bringing them to within four points of leaders Celtic.

Hibs meekly surrendered a six-game unbeaten run, five under Montgomery, when Cyriel Dessers comfortably slotted the late fourth.

Hibs’ tenth successive defeat was assisted and encouraged by some comical defense at Ibrox.

Rangers opened strongly, as one would expect from a team wanting to impress their new manager.

As Hibs’ Dylan Vente forced the first save and Lewis Miller’s long throw caused fear in the home penalty box, there were still hints of the fragility they demonstrated under Michael Beale.

Clement was dealt a blow when Croatian left-back Borna Barisic was pulled out after only 10 minutes, and reinstated attacker Dessers volleyed wastefully at goalkeeper David Marshall.

However, the home crowd’s anxieties were calmed moments later when Sima surged through a swarm of Hibs defenders and hammered a low shot into Marshall’s far corner.

Hibs escaped a goalmouth melee when Jordan Obita cleared off his own line from Scott Wright, Sima fired wide, and, after a VAR review, it was determined that a shot in between had struck Joe Newell’s hand off his knee, resulting in no penalty.

Raskin ultimately scored his first goal for the Rangers, firing low past Marshall from 25 yards, with VAR finding that Newell had not been touched in the build-up.

Sam Lammers’ goal-scoring struggles continued when he fired against the post, but after Dessers had two efforts stopped in front of goal, Sima showed him the path to the net.

Dessers ultimately got on the scoresheet after being passed through by replacement Todd Cantwell, before Ibrox rose to applaud Clement’s clinical winning start.
