Sri Lanka beat the Netherlands to get their first win in the Cricket World Cup 2023.

Sri Lanka’s first win of the 2023 World Cup came in Lucknow, where they escaped another upset by the Netherlands.

South Africa was shocked by the Dutch on Tuesday. They came back from 91-6 to post 262 all out, with Sybrand Engelbrecht’s 70 and Logan van Beek’s 59.

Sri Lanka was 52-2 and then 104-3 when Pathum Nissanka was out for 54. Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka then brought the team back to life.

Aryan Dutt bowled Asalanka out for 44, giving the off-spinner his third wicket. With 83 runs still needed, Samarawickrama led the chase and finished with 91 not out.

Sri Lanka won with five wickets and 10 deliveries to spare, even though they seemed to be moving very slowly as they got closer to their goal.

The 10 teams in the event still haven’t won their first game. Sri Lanka is the last team to do so. They have two points, the same as the Dutch, which puts them two points behind the top four teams in the group.

Sri Lanka will then play England in Bangalore on Thursday. Head coach Chris Silverwood will be back with the team he led from 2019 to 2022.

Australia has won this tournament five times, and they play the Netherlands in Delhi on Wednesday.
