Arsenal were eliminated from the Women’s Champions League qualifying stages after being defeated on penalties by Paris FC of France.

The Gunners, who reached the competition’s semi-finals last season, rallied from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits to force a shootout after extra time.

Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie saved penalties from Arsenal’s England strikers Alessia Russo and Frida Maanum, allowing the underdogs to win 4-2 on penalties.

Mathilde Bourdieu scored twice in two minutes early in the second half to put Paris solidly in charge, but Russo’s first Arsenal goal pulled one back before Jen Beattie’s header leveled things late.

Paris took the lead again in the second half of extra time with to Louise Fleury’s excellent first-time goal, but Arsenal equalized thanks to summer signing Russo’s fantastic 25-yarder.

Nnadozie, who did not save a single penalty in Nigeria’s World Cup shootout loss to England last summer, was Paris’ hero as they advanced on penalties.
