COP28: UN climate talks are in danger because of pushback against fossil fuels

In the draft, words that suggested fossil fuels could be “phased out” were taken out from an earlier version.

The 198 countries that are meeting must all agree, or there will be no deal.

On Tuesday, a new version of the text with changes is likely to be released so that talks can continue.

Millions of lives are at risk because people are burning fossil fuels, but governments have never agreed on how or when to stop doing this.

Someone from the European Union said the plan was “unacceptable” and that the EU could leave.
