Day two of the India-England Test match saw 19 wickets fall as the hosts took control of the match.
England were all out for 136 in reply to India’s first-innings 428, losing six wickets for only 10 runs.
Deepti Sharma took 5-7, with Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 59 the only notable contribution for England.
India then chose not to enforce the follow-on and completed 186-6, with a commanding 478-run advantage.
‘Deep-rooted spin issues have returned to haunt England.’
Charlie Dean took 4-68 and Sophie Ecclestone 2-76, but the turn and bounce they created just adds to the strain as England faces batting last with such a large gap with only two days remaining.
India began the day on 410-7 but could only add 18 runs as Lauren Bell and Ecclestone claimed the final three wickets in the first ten overs.
England fell to 28-2 in reply, with seamers Renuka Singh Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar dismissing Sophia Dunkley and Heather Knight, before Tammy Beaumont and Sciver-Brunt rebuilt with a steady stand of 51.
