Mason Mount, a midfielder, says that his move from Chelsea to Manchester United is the next step in his career.

Mason Mount told Chelsea fans that a move to Manchester United is “what’s right for me at this point in my career.”

The England player talked to fans in a film posted to social media on Tuesday.

Mount has agreed to join United on a five-year deal for £55 million plus an extra £5 million.

The player joined Chelsea when he was six years old, so he knows that some Blues fans won’t be happy about his move.

The 24-year-old said, “I’ve made up my mind to leave Chelsea.”

“I think you deserve more than a letter, so I wanted to tell you in person how thankful I am for all the help you’ve given me over the last 18 years.

“I know some of you won’t like my choice, but it’s what I think is best for my career right now.”

Mount also thanked the Chelsea academy, the people who work behind the scenes, his old teammates, and Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel, and Graham Potter, the coaches he’s had since his first game as a professional.

Mason Mount: What will the English player bring to Manchester United?
Before a deal was made, United made three offers for Mount that Chelsea turned down.

He will be Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer. The Dutch manager is looking to improve his team after United qualified for the Champions League next season.

Mount has scored 33 goals in 195 games for Chelsea since he made his debut in 2019. He missed the end of the domestic season with an injury as the Blues struggled to finish 12th in the Premier League, which was their worst finish in more than 25 years.

Mount won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021. He played in the final, which was a 1-0 win over Manchester City. He also helped the Blues win the Fifa Club World Cup and the Uefa Super Cup.

He will be the latest Chelsea player to leave this summer, after players like N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Kai Havertz, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Mateo Kovacic.
