As Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti outclassed the top-ranked player from Great Britain, Cameron Norrie’s attempt to advance to the French Open final 16 was again unsuccessful.
Norrie, 27, was defeated 6-1 6-2 6-4 in the third round of Roland Garros for the third year in a row.
Although Musetti was seeded 17th, she outperformed Norrie, who was ranked higher, in a cool-headed performance on the Paris clay.
There are no longer any British players in the singles as a result of Norrie’s withdrawal.
Norrie’s fourth-round matchup with top seed Carlos Alcaraz was also eliminated, as Musetti instead advanced to face either the 20-year-old Spaniard or Canadian 26th seed Denis Shapovalov.
The two are competing in their third-round match on Court Philippe Chatrier on Friday night.
