Ryder Cup 2023: Luke Donald believes Europe’s female players can only be a ‘positive influence’ to his team.

The European women’s team retaining the Solheim Cup provides “good inspiration” for the men’s team, which begins the Ryder Cup on Friday, according to captain Luke Donald.

Europe enters the 44th edition of the biannual event in Rome fresh off a record 19-9 defeat at Whistling Straits in 2021.

“[Caroline] Hedwall and [Carlota] Ciganda made some amazing turnarounds in their matches,” Donald added.

“A lot of the guys were talking about it and posting stuff on social media.”

“I couldn’t be happier for Suzann [Pettersen, Europe captain].”

“That’s only good inspiration for our team going forward for this week.”

Pettersen praises Europe’s ‘legends’ from Solheim.
Pettersen’s team had already recovered from a 4-0 loss in the first session at Finca Cortesin in Spain to begin Sunday’s singles matches at 8-8.

They then came back from a 13-11 deficit in astonishing fashion to secure the first 14-14 tie in the event’s 18th staging.

A stalemate would be insufficient for Donald’s men to retrieve a trophy they have won in seven of their last ten encounters with the US.
