Tottenham have agreed a loan deal with RB Leipzig for Timo Werner.

The 27-year-old forward will fly to London for his physical, and Spurs will pay his wages for the remainder of the season.

Werner has Premier League experience after joining Chelsea in a £45 million deal from RB Leipzig in 2020.

The German scored 23 goals in 89 Chelsea appearances before returning to Leipzig in 2022.

He has two goals in 14 appearances for the Bundesliga club this season, who stated on Saturday that he was not involved in their friendly against St Gallen due to transfer talks.

Since then, Leipzig manager Marco Rose has confirmed the forward’s impending move to north London.

“It’s understandable if Timo wants to go on loan. Timo wants to compete in the European Championship,” Rose told Sky Germany.

“We wish him all the best and are keeping our fingers crossed for him.”

Werner has 57 Germany caps, although his most recent appearance was in a friendly loss to Belgium in March 2023.

He is expected to return to London, where he won the Champions League twice with Chelsea.

Spurs are eager to add to their attacking options with Son Heung-min away with South Korea for the Asian Cup and James Maddison still out injured.

Tottenham will play Manchester United in their next Premier League match on Sunday, January 14th.
