Trump is ‘gearing up for battle’ at a court hearing in New York, according to his lawyer.
According to his lawyer, former US President Donald Trump is “gearing up for a battle” ahead of his scheduled court hearing on Tuesday.
Mr Trump is expected to fly from his Mar-a-Lago estate to New York City on Monday to face charges related to hush money payments made to a porn star.
Following his court appearance, he intends to return to Florida and address his supporters.
Mr. Trump has maintained his denial of any wrongdoing.
His lawyer, Joe Tacopina, has promised that any charges brought against the former president will be vigorously fought.
“He’s going to be ready for this fight,” Mr Tacopina said on ABC’s This Week on Sunday.
“We’re ready for this fight, and I’m looking forward to getting this thing over with as soon as possible in order to exonerate him.”
According to media reports, Mr Trump will face more than 30 charges related to business fraud stemming from a $130,000 (£105,000) payment to Stormy Daniels in 2016 in an attempt to buy her silence about an alleged affair.
What exactly happened with Stormy Daniels and Donald Trump?
‘He’ll be our next president,’ say Florida protesters of Trump.
What the Trump indictment means in simple terms
According to sources familiar with the case, the former president is being charged with falsifying business records in the first degree, which is a felony under US law.
The charges, including what they are and how many there are, are still under seal. Mr Tacopina stated that he has not yet seen the charges.
Mr Trump is said to be meeting with his advisors and legal team to plan his defense before flying to New York on Monday.
