Ishan Kishan replaces KL Rahul in India’s World Test Championship lineup for the final against Australia.

Ishan Kishan will take KL Rahul’s position in India’s World Test Championship final against Australia.

After injuring a tendon in his right leg, Rahul, 31, will miss the final and the rest of the Indian Premier League season.

On May 1, he was injured while fielding for the Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Kishan, 24, has played in shorter forms for India but has yet to make his Test debut.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) announced on Monday that “Rahul will undergo surgery as soon as possible, followed by rehab.”

Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper Kishan was picked to the Test squad for the first two games of India’s four-match home series against Australia in February, which India won 2-1.

Both Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav have been included to the squad for the WTC final, but they are being monitored after suffering injuries in recent weeks.

The final will be place at the Oval in London from June 7 to June 11.

On June 16, Australia will face England in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
