Strictly Come Dancing: Brian Cox declines show because he is ‘too elderly’

The Succession star, 77, told the BBC that he enjoyed dancing but was unsure whether he wanted to “go down that road.”

The BBC One broadcast of the dancing competition’s grand final on Saturday drew more than eight million viewers.

Ellie Leach, 22, was crowned this year’s champion, giving her the show’s youngest winner ever.

The Coronation Street actress and professional dancer Vito Coppola won the glitterball award over EastEnders’ Bobby Brazier and Bad Education’s Layton Williams.

They were the youngest trio of finalists ever to compete, with an average age of 23.

The moment of triumph for Ellie and Vito Cox, who played Logan Roy in the TV drama Succession, was questioned about Strictly when he appeared on BBC One’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg.

“I’ve actually been asked to be on it,” he confirmed.

“I declined,” he added. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy dancing… I’m not sure why, but there always seems to be a comedy element in it.

“There’s almost a character that’s going to be getting the elbow… and I just thought, ‘I don’t know if I want to go down that road’.”
