Harvey Barnes, a winger for England, was sold to Newcastle by Leicester City for £38 million.
Harvey Barnes, a player for England, has been bought by Newcastle United from Leicester City for about £38 million.
The 25-year-old, who has played for England once, has signed a deal with the Magpies for five years.
He is the third player to join the team this summer. Forward Yankuba Minteh and Italian international playmaker Sandro Tonali were the first two.
Barnes said, “I think it’s an attacker’s dream to join a team like this.”
“I’m thrilled. It’s a great club, and for me, it’s a huge chance to join a strong team that’s doing exciting things, so I’m really excited to be here.
Last season, Newcastle placed fourth in the Premier League. In 2023–24, it will be the first time since 2003–04 that Newcastle plays in the Champions League.
Eddie Howe, the head coach of Newcastle United, said, “Harvey is an exciting player who I’ve admired for a long time. I’m thrilled to have him join our team.”
“He is strong, quick, and technically very good, and he showed last season that he can score goals from wide positions in particular.”
Barnes is the most recent player to leave the Leicester City team since they were kicked out of the Premier League.
He played for Leicester in the Premier League 146 times, scoring 35 goals and setting up 25 others.
Even though he scored 13 goals in the league that year, they still fell to the Championship.
James Maddison went to Tottenham for £40 million, while midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Caglar Soyuncu left for free to go to Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid, respectively. His departure came after Maddison’s move.
